Hi again,

 

If you go the DSLR route, look at a Nikon D3300 with an 18-200mm lens, the kit lens 18-55 is Ok to start with but the 18-200 gives you everything from fairly wide to fairly long.

 

Even if you spent twice as much, I doubt if you would get noticeably better photos.

Another one here who looked at getting a DSLR but ended up with the Sony RX 100. Great with low light and no need for a backpack to take it with you. As someone wisely said to me you take your best pictures with the camera you have on you.
