Hello,

I am have a problem with my ms-230 chainsaw in starting it.

What happens is when I try and start on the cold setting of the choke it does fire up, I then switch it over to the hot start which it runs very fast which is normal, the problem arises when I try and switch it over to the normal setting which it runs for a second then dies completely. it does this every time, I have looked at the filter which is fine.any help/advice would be greatly appreciated....

Thanks,

Sam

It could simply need an idle speed adjustment, there may be crud in the internal gauze filter and the carb does have an accelerator pump so this may also be an issue.

Good morning Spudulike,

Thanks for your reply. The saw in question doesn't get to much use really . it is mainly used for cutting up logs and fencing when they need replacing. so could that be a major factor?

I think the first thing I will try is the internal gauze filter, Is that the one which harrythecat is talking about?

Hi,

I had a similar - ish problem with my 250, I replaced the fuel pick-up pipe as I discovered these can split, not sure if thats what you have.

The pickup pipe filter is also worth checking as suggested by Spud,

heres the pipe if needed

The carbs on these saws are prone to flooding, so I start: one pull on choke position fully down, on or two on half next click up, then put to run position for further pulls.

Hi NFG,

Thanks for your suggestion, I think I may have found the symptom. Not sure of what is causing it though. It works perfectly if I start it and then undo the fuel cap, I have checked the fuel tank filter and that looks fine?

Yes it is but have you tried half a turn on the idle "LA" screw first?
