If it is just a retune, it will be the cost of a crate of beer and the courier back.......can't be fairer than that:thumbup:

Hmm, I'll bet you're a Peroni kind of guy, ain't ya

Very good of you mate. I'll give it a good clean and a splash of cologne before I box it up :)

Just to re open this post, we had this same issue on a 357 a while ago, and we have the 3/8" rim & drum set which only seems to be a 357 part, and has the extra flange/step as mentioned above. It still had excessive play, enough to cause the oiler to come away from splines. We fitted a "shim" (w----r) behind the clutch and all the evils etc do seems to be cured. I would like to think we've got the wrong part, but all seems to be right... Back to the washer then.

It is really odd that I haven't heard of this on any forum before - but there always is something new to learn about.

Could it just be a batch of parts that isn't within specs?

nope, it is just that the oiler pinion has an internal flange that can wear down in time.

Seen it s few times now

I assume installing a new one solves the issue then? :001_smile:

Yes, usual issue is the flange wears till it has gone, the pinion rubs on the outer seal until it leaks or the oiler misses the drum.

Fit a new one and replace the seal if worn and leaking!

It's all new parts on our 357. Double checked part numbers the other day. It works fine with "shim" but it nags the brain cells. Will triple check next time clutch is off.

According to the last 357xp IPL (2010), the oiler gear for small spline drum is 503 91 27-03, and for the standard (often called large) spline drum it is 503 91 29-03.
