Thank you all for your great comments. It is great to carve something a bit different and get paid to do so. Sometimes nice to have a specific brief, although the proposing pose was my idea ( pats own back) ( also used a plumbing olive for the ring).Not based on anyone in particular, just thought a big tache would make him of the era and a proper gent like. Thanks again.

Is the soilder carved from the stump he's sitting on, i.e. all one piece or has he just been placed on that stump??

Its all 1 piece. Both are from the same tree. I had a couple of logs kicking about for him to carve
