they are made by stihl i have the edt 7 which does 2 and four stroke, and will work by impulse, so you dont actually need to have it clipped to the spark plug just hold it on the top cover of your saw is normally enough

not cheap mind :scared1:

you can replace the batteries in the stihl tach (as well as most sealed tachs)....

you just have to carefully cut a hole in the back of the unit and change the battery. no problem for an engineering legend like deano... and if it goes tats up, you get to break something rather than throw it away... bonus:001_smile:

as for stihl vs tiny tach...

i believe the refresh rate is quicker on the tiny tach than the edt7, a feature i like (dont want to be running a saw at full throttle with no load for longer than necissary)

i think the older stihl edt5 had a quicker refresh rate than the edt7.

however, the edt7 tach is the only one that will work on new-age electronically controlled carbs ( ms280i and the soon to be released husky 576autotune)... not an issue for most

I've done that before to replace components that cost pence in the "Sealed" voltage regulators in gensets instead of paying Hundreds for a new one.

I'll give it a go in 9 years time, cheers Tree-beard :001_smile:
