Do you mean the red swing check pulleys for rigging? If so a tape sling round the tree with a steel karabiner to attach them together is fine. Just don't larks foot the tape sling round the pulley and then the tree as the metal on the pulley combined with the forces of lowering may cause the sling to break. Have I understood you correctly?

Thanks Jay. That's what I was thinking. Given the pully is rated for 70Kn and 16mm rope I can imagine people putting some big loads on these and the Karabiner being the weakest link. I personally want to use it for redirects and light stuff but do like to have compatibility of kit sorted.

Without knowing what rope you are using and looking at the swl of each item I would say that the weakest link in the chain would be the rope, taking into account circles go failure etc. The wll on my ISC steel biners is 50kn from memory. On Honey's website they have a lot of the manufactures info on mbs, swl etc so might be a good place to start if you want to really drill down what the system is rated to in optimum conditions. Swing checks are fine for lighter stuff but impact blocks are better for larger loads of course

It sounds like a straight forward question if interpreted correctly but also leaves me thinking it's such an elementary question as to suggest there might be something missing?

Please don't take this the wrong way, but if you have to ask how to attach a sling/pulley, might it be better to get together with someone who can show you, or better still, get the CS 41 ticket (002109 in new speak)

Maybe I've read the question wrong?

Kevin, your right it is a simple question. My other pullys are 'impact' versions or much smaller again. I was assuming a karabiner type connection just couldn't find confirmation in Isc documentation and website.

I can see advantages and disadvantags to using a bow shackle or mallion rapid instead of a Karabiner.

ISC iron wizard will have the same mbs as the pulley, as per the instructions don't attach fibre directly to the pulley, you should be able to find & work out the strength/ knotted/ spliced strength of your rigging line & attachment sling to work out the weakest link your self, like Kevin said perhaps some formal training is in order, AT is a great resource but them chaps (or chapettes) with the white wigs might not view it as such a definative one....?
