I have done similar jobs, some good stories, some horror stories.

 

I've always specified my payment terms, not theirs i.e. on completion.

 

If they want to pay in 90 days they can get some other sucker to do it!

 

As stated, they normally want the work done yesterday, so they CAN hurry the money train up when they need to.

 

It's about time we all stopped being so spineless and money-grabbing and stood up to these fat-cat pricks.

I have completed/ had my work signed off by two construction companies. you are going to have fun getting all of the agreed contract money in one lump. they tend to rush you for a quote,pin you down,then also want you to drop everything to kill and remove the trees and roots. when you get on site one may find that the job you looked at has changed dramaticaly regards the topografy, or landscape. bad spelling ..good point. oh, do not put all your eggs in one basket!

Retention of a pecentage of your quote can be quite a short period of time, if the consrt. or management firm you quote to are moving on fast with their build schedule,assertain the retention time,and also ensure that you removed the specified trees with no responsibility regards clay heave,etc...

A mate of mine is involved with a claim for £500,000 on a £25,000 job because the construction firm reckons they delayed 'everything'

They didnt.

 

Not a tree job but doesnt matter really.

Very sincere thanks everyone for your replies on this; my can do attitude will be parked up on this one. Thanks to your input I can see that their tender invite is in fact complete crap - poorly structured and leaves gaping holes for the abuse and misinterpretation of "information". I'll put a short, courteous but blunt reply to them... Thanks but no thanks. Cheers.
