claiming for import duties

Hi all,

I decided to order hitchhiker from USA. After paying online price I received a letter from Parcel Force asking me to pay "import VAT" and "clearance fee" before it can be delivered to me. This letter is in a form of invoice; can I claim it as expenses in my tax return?

I decided to order hitchhiker from USA. After paying online price I received a letter from Parcel Force asking me to pay "import VAT" and "clearance fee" before it can be delivered to me. This letter is in a form of invoice; can I claim it as expenses in my tax return?

 

You can claim all costs incurred procuring the item.

Not sure about the VAT if youre not VAT registered, otherwise should be fine.

You claim the full price of the item, including VAT, against your TAX.

 

Of cause you don't get the VAT back directly, as you would if you were registered, but it can go against your profits in the normal fashion.
