Line of 7 hedgerow, possibly boundry Trees.

Mainly patreas, a fantastic hollow Beech & a couple of impressive torminalis.

 

Been aware of the H&S implications and more importantly the health/stability of these Trees for a while.

 

We have finaly been prompted by another limb failure, to reduce & halo a couple, and move the relatively well used desire path which was on top of their root plates.

 

Dead hedged to exclude foot fall, felled a few birch & Beech scrub, and blew a path through the leaf litter to emphasize the new route.

Was startled at how many micorrhizal fungi were hiding underneath.

 

Had a session with Andy Cowan on a couple of the Trees with the Thermal Imager, as there are amongst other things, Ustulina issues.

 

First picture shows the Trees at approx 9 o'clock, shot from a plane back in the Twenties.

I love all the old reference photos, must be great to work somewhere with a documented past

They are fooked- move the footpath and leave well alone if poss!!

Have this nicely maturing Ash Vet, that's colonised through the canopy with Inonotus hispidus & Daldinia.

Limbs are now starting to die back & drop.

 

There's a desire line path that runs right past the trunk.

& the constant useage doesn't allow the brambles to encroach & naturally shut off the path.

Ok, thanks Dave. It's been a while since I did the Thermal Imaging course with Andrew and Marcus. I am still interested to see if it will make it in our 'toolbox' for tree assessment.

I think it will, but then if folk cant understand how and why its usefull they wont buy into it and unfortunatley it wont progress, and thats happened.
