I'm a little confused by the last message Nepia.

 

The OP says its on his parents drive - tucked up. I assume not being driven.

 

Your link clearly says if its SORN and off road, you don't need insurance. If you use it on the road or in public - you do need it.

 

Have you mis-read something or are you assuming that his parents are using it or its not on SORN right now?

 

 

 

I'm assuming nothing; I'm asking. Although it's apparently not in use it may still be insured. But it may not. But that's a matter for the OP, hence my discreet way of putting it I thought!

How to get out of a insurance policy without fees. Insure your car then when you want to get out ask to switch vehicle to a van for commercial use, in most cases they will have to finish the first policy and start a new one, this gives you a fresh 14 say 'cool off' period in which you can cancel for free.
