The milling season is upon us

I've got a busy week ahead.

Milling an Ash in Edingley on monday, a Yew and Cherry in Solihull on Tuesday and Oaks in Loughborough on Thursday & Friday.

That leaves Wednesday to clean the equipment and rest my back before finally collapsing on Saturday!

The introduction of using a winch on the mill has made a huge difference to the time & energy spent milling. If you haven't fitted a winch to your Alaskan yet I strongly advise you to do so.

The slight drawback with the Thursday & Friday job is that the client wants to watch and being the academic type means he'll spend most of the time questioning why I do what I do the way I do!

We had a busy day Thursday with my smaller of the two burr oaks. I knew when I felled it there was a change in saw dust out of the 070, and sure enough a hole in my butt! Caused by honey fungus :(

But we got around 5 decent outer boards and a couple of lovely small 2.5ft side table burr slabs!!

Got a big oak to mill next few weeks, oversized for the big bar so will need to take some sides off. Two sections @4ft and a bit!

I'll not be milling next week but got 3 days the week after though. All Oak, 2 of those days are at Roehampton university. Will be cutting mostly with the lucas though an only taking a I few slabs off with the alaskan. As much as I hate London it does give me an excuse to crash at an old mates house and catch up. Cheaper than a b and d b too.
