Only had it on one day so far, but seems ok. We only keep low useage stuff there so won't be going up and down to it all day long.

Because of the way I have the chip box (smaller on one side) it means that the old dropside of the truck is still usefull as a hand/foot hold. So grip the drop side, foot on rear wheel then up and grab the side of the roof rack then stend on the drop side while getting stuff out the roof box. Works fine, and if I can't manage it then its time to quite tree work!

Would be tricky on yours though with out a little ladder.

Thats what i was thinking mate, You being able to use the room at the side of the chip box.

All my LDV modification/add ons are on hold for a few weeks now as i want to move house but ill hopefully have one of those roof racks within a couple of months :001_smile:

You could get just the cross bars and not bother with the side rails, that might look a bit better, and you can add a roller to the rear bar if you want.

I just went for the full thing, and TBH the side rail is vital for climbing up and down safely, but it does get in the way when tryign to unlock the roof box.

So how much do you reckon it cost just to build the chip box Rupe? not in time but cost of materials, its about time i did something with mine so just getting ideas.

Sorry, never saw this post, it was during my off arbtalk time.

The steel work that got done for me (the folding of the panels and the strengtheners and the spot welding) was £700 including the steel.

Then I fitted it all on the truck myself so may £40 in bits n bobs!

The roof panels were 2 @ £20.00 from metal recycling, and the side white panels, I forget now, £40 ish each?? Somehting like that.

Couple of hundred for the roof rack and the box I already had on my old subaru.

So the whole truck and build cost £3500 ish but lots of hours. !!
