Three Phase Power

I'm now in the market for a vertical log splitter - the more powerful the better.

Unfortunately, a petrol driven machine just isn't an option.

Should I be looking at a three phase machine?

What are the performance advantages over single phase?

Thanks for any input.

3 phase motors are normally cheaper, smaller and cheaper to run than their single phase equivalents.

I have the 3 ph sheppach splitter and the performance was superb 1 phase machine would be like comparing a moped with a Impreza. I converted mine to run on an 11 hp Honda and it now has no where near the power but at least we can use it in the woods. Ours is 7 years old and never put a spanner to it just plenty of grease.

Thanks guys - that's what I needed to hear. Can anyone recommend a 3 phase machine they have used?

Scheppach are the only ones I can find.

The workshop has 3 phase and I'd be daft not to use it.

I have a Uniforest splitter, supplied by Riko, which has a 3 phase motor, aswell as a pto drive.

First class machine
