I realised after I'd posted that reply that it could be mis-interpreted!

I've got the small one (pickaroon that is) and was using it to flick split logs from the floor into my hand. Works fine until you fail to pick up a log and your momentum takes the point straight into your waiting palm!

I had a rather horrible vision of a leather clad idiot staggering around a suffolk wood with an impaled appendage

Recently made one out of a 2" piece of scaffold tube with a morse taper drill bit remover welded on as the pick. Squash the scaffold tube to fit a 2ft axe handle et voila!

You're not far wrong there Dinosaw, although I do err towards the studded neck collar and a five foot stiffened Yak leather broadsword scabbard to protect the 'old chap'
