Easy parts rust removal

A couple on months back I was browsing for info about rust removal products.

I came across a recipe for molasses diluted with water at 10%.

It works by chelation. It will not work on paint or oily greasy surfaces.

Simply mix solution in plastic container. Immerse rusty part for 2 weeks then rinse off with water and scrub with nylon brush. Then put it back in as needed. Repeat as needed.

I put this in ten days ago. I couldn't get it all in the tub hence the line.

The next thing is waiting for better weather to blow torch dry and paint.[first picture is after removal from tub before rub and rinse

Yes, probably. I even have a small one myself. But hate using the thing. This is actually pleasurably satisfying.

It's also gentle. I have wire brushes on angle grinders, sanders etc as well. But this way so far suits me.

Just leave them to soak have a brushing session. Put them back in. It's therapeutic even. Back to nature.

It's big in the states with car restoration.

As funny as it made sound but I suggest you try cola. :)

I did come across that and vinegar. Cola (phosphoric acid) can be a bit severe but much quicker. Im soaking 36 inch rim tractor wheels. I need 300 + litres of the stuff. Molasses was £36 for 30ltr. Cola maybe better for smaller parts but would be alot more ££££

Nice result. Quick, but how much tractor wheel rim would I get in it??

If I need to derust large stuff I make a tank with a plastic pond liner supported by bales of straw and concrete blocks, sleepers etc, my mate uses one of those big square plastic containers in a cage with the top cut off.

Mine is a round orange juice container. I did measure ibc tank but they are 1.2 x about 1m just short one way. But I'm open to all experimentation. Might try the electro

Method. On a small scale sometime any pointers appreciated.
