Veg oil

Talking to a bloke this morning who claims he runs his td5 90 on straight veg oil!!!! Says it runs perfect! Anybody done this? Is it possible? Sureley it cant be good for it!

I thought about doing it.....

 

But worked on the basis that if it did bugger the td5 engine it's going to cost me alot more than what I've saved on fuel.

 

There are other people who run them on used engine oil. Filtering it before it goes in the tank. Didn't do it for the same reason.

I worked with a cutter a couple of years ago said he ran his astra van on used veg oil from his brothers fish n chip shop!!

I used to run my banana Transit on 10% vedge oil, ran a lot smoother and quieter, quicker through the gears as well.

 

To run it 100% you need to run the vedge oil through an oil cooler connected to the heater circuit to warm it up!

 

Chip shop oil needs to be run through a filter system then acids added that have been taken away by the frying.

I've run quite a few motors on 100% veg oil and very high percentages of old engine oil. It's fine, you just have to pick the right vehicle to do it to without modification or use a twin tank kit.

Td5s state that you shouldn't use biodiesel so I'm guessing veg oil is a bad idea

I ran my old 200 on a mix of veg oil and diesel. But never 100% at max probably 50/50.

I never ran my td5 on veg oil, i believe the td5 engine doesn't like it. Pop over to the land rover forums and have a look

Common rails can only be run on very light blends, maybe 20%. To run in modified on high percentages of bi you need an older diesel with a Bosch fuel pump (not Lucas) old Mercedes are best as they were also indirect injection which aids combustion of the heavier oil.
