hey guys,

i have an old original 020 and was wondering can someone point me in right direction with my problem before go tearing it apart.

firstly it constantly cuts out on idle, revs drop slowly and it dies-carb?usually you have to put to choke once then start to get it going

secondly only noticed this today but when its running and you apply chain brake it cuts out instantly.

thirdly when you go to start it again i noticed chain turning on the pull stroke of the cord.

hope someone can help.

cheers

Start with your clutch springs & needle roller bearings supporting the clutch, once thats sorted if its still playing up clean carb or replace the rubber parts then tune it to stock settings to start with.

The fact your chain brake is stalling your saw means that there is binding between the clutch/crankshaft and clutch drum. This must be sorted before looking at anything else.

Is this an 020T or the older metal cased 020AVT?

Fitting a new carb kit tends to improve a saw a little but is no magic silver bullet against all issues.

About the only thing you can get wrong is the oil pump drive engagement.

Just what I was thinking - the teeth on the spur sprocket need to MESH with the segments on the white oil pump drive. If it doesn't, it will cause issues with the back of the clutch tightening on the clutch drum rather than the flange on the crankshaft:thumbdown:
