Think it's all about the servicing!!

 

Definitely on defenders and old discos but d3 onwards its lap of gods. No matter how serviced or driven hard makes no difference it's all luck. Mine was fully serviced and mint at 60 k never towed and used to go to golf courses. 10k miles with me and it just fell to bits and I am talking over 10 k in repairs.

Every 6k miles religiously. Look after them, and they'll look after you.

 

Those were the days when you could change the oil every 6k and get 100k before u spent any money. Those were the days before common rail,Dpfs, dmfs, egrs, swirl flaps, euro six emissions and all the other gizmos that pack up on a daily basis often taking 8 k of engine with them.
