planning permission for a kiln on a croft?

I have discovered Big J's kiln thread:lol:

 

Would a permanent kiln for drying timber mainly for own use require planning permission on my croft? Is a kiln classed as a forestry diversification similar to an ag building. It would replace disused buildings with a similar foot print but slightly higher so i can get a telihandler inside, i would be surprised if any of the neighbors objected. i really cant have two insulated lorrys in the garden although they are portable?

 

I have a polytunnel but that will destroy wood in the summer and two shipping containers will cost the best part of 3.5k for clean ones that need insulating and a concrete pad(poor drainage), im just as well building something decent. estimated size around 30' x 16' x 10' internal kiln dimensions with an apex roof to about 16' max

Intrigued. What does the polytunnel do to your wood? Never heard a downside (other than ripping the film when lifting crates.

If its milled timber, it will dry way to fast causing warping and splits.

 

Fire wood is fine.
