TIPS Extending broken spark plug wires

Yes, but I would try a very thin self tapper about 20mm long, cut off the head and sharpen to a point. Use grips to screw it into one end of the HT lead, then twist the other end on.

Use a rubber spark plug cap cut the plug end off and then slide it over the join to insulate it and wrap insulation tape round the ends!

Nice one, thank you.Went for crimped and soldered on spade connectors and several layers of shrink wrap.Different prob now- barely a spark. Cleaned points. It's odd - gives me a real real strong belt if I pull it over and touch the plug connector but no spark with plug.

how are you testing for spark just using a spark plug or proper spark tester?

i use a b/s spark tester & stihl spark tester i also have peak kv tester to measure voltage at plug with this you can check reserve voltage to allow for air mixture inrush when you open the throttle as this can cause problems if you do not have enough reserve voltage

Tried with the plug in ice cream cone light type thing and with the jump the gap type thing in the little plastic window and grounding plug to cylinder. Will get spark if i hold lead to body but nothing if plug attached.Like I said strong shock if i hold lead and pull over even slowly. I"ll have to research a kv tester.

i normally disconnect the points and fit a tci unit to trigger the coil for some reason i get a better spark with the tci unit and no points to mess with if you have a Kawasaki with a separate igniter try this disconnect the wire from the points to the coil attach the wire to the spade connector on the igniter make shore it has a good earth connection i do this on flymos with points as the coil is under the flywheel

first pic is a sic 1 second pic is a nova 2

both work the same way

RE: peak kv testing here is a video it is based on motorbike diagnostics but this unit works with any ignition system

this is the other one i use as it is quick and simple to use

one wire to ht lead other to good earth

Gunson - GCP7870G Peak KV Tester.

Thanks Barrie and cheers for the vid and info Bill - looks like a useful tool. I have one of those sic/atom units. I"ll give it a go as at present I have nothing to lose. Much aprreciated.

Sorry if I'm being a bit dumb.Never done one of these and instructions not very helpful.Cant figure out how the connection is made with the grey cap thing? It has a threaded inside.

Its just a cable joiner Mike. The idea is to twist the two wires together and screw them into the cap to insulate them. You can use a crimp instead.
