Caledonian forestry services at Auchterarder has got an 8ton JCB for sale just now

Those 8080's were hated in the construction industry; the later 8085 was much better.

Can the OP clarify whether he's thinking stroke or roller head? Stroke needs less oil and is better in rough timber but is slower and not much cheaper.

Attended a meeting in early December re grants and ended up on a local estate where they demonstrated the head they had received a grant for. It was on a 6 ton machine which the estate already owned. Cannot remember the manufacturer of the head, they reckoned this was the first in the country but it was £60,000 and if you ask me too heavy for a 6 ton as the machine kept tilting forward with the rear of the tracks off the ground when it was handling the timber. They estimated total investment was £130k!

Yep, 6 tonne not really weighty enough; as per above vid of Doosan; you can see it lift about on very small wood. 8 Tonne minimum imo. Best standard hydraulic flow is from Terex TC125; cracking long tracked 12 tonner in a compact package. Komatsu also do an 11 tonner but not as gutsy as the Terex.
