Transit crew cab problem

It might not be quite that simple.

The geometry of crew cabs puts more of the tipping load area on the back axle.

The crew cab bit is pretty light by comparison.

This means is it’s easy to overload the back axle without reaching the vehicles MAM.

Load up with chip then weigh each axle individually. You also need to allow for the nose weight of your chipper.

The vehicle will (should) have a plate identifying each axle’s legal capacity.

You wont get many replies as the thread is not on this topic. If no one is bothered about complying then its up to them but its useful to know its out there. I dont think vosa are interested in a local man going about his business. If you had 3.5 tonne of trailer 300 miles from home and you were seen nodding at the wheel I think you would get pulled over.

Vosa, and the other agencies will pull you in and thoroughly check everything, make no mistake. When Steve (Bullman) and I were pulled in, the transit in front had a piece of plastic drainage pipe, a bucket spade and wheelbarrow on board, he was weighed and checked just the same as we were, only difference was he wasnt quite as heavy as us, and we were "local, going about our business".
