OK I take all your points on board. The old labourer will be me. Original business plan is garden maintenance with some small tree work. Working for himself he can plan his training courses as he wants while I'm keeping the business ticking over. Tree work is something he aspires to get into. Ideally he will be able to sub himself out a few days a week once he has done all his climbing certificates, this way he can gain valuable experience and secondly we can build his own business. I asked for a quote for private and small commercial businesses with a height of 25m to get a feel for their prices. I was told I can increase if our work goes beyond what we were targeting. Problem is you don't now until you start, what you need. Plus he will build up his no claims which may help in the future. Just want to start the business off professionally as possible without paying for what we may not use.

You need more than £1 m pl insurance in my opinion.

I have a grass cutting contract with a parish council and they would not contemplate using me without £10 million pl insurance.

would not be without at least £5 m anyway, not worth the risk imo

Thanks kentjames, gave Trust a call today. Took on board everybody's advice, For £315 they have a policy that suits my needs. PL insurance 5 million, work to 5m in height, and they will remove the restriction once my son has completed his climbing course. Whole lots of other bits included, gardening, landscaping fencing etc.,I've been emailed the policy and just need to reed it and pay the fees next week and we are up and running. I can add EL insurance at a later date.

Tanks again everybody, just like to say what a good forum this is. Everybody in the house is on Facebook but I'm for ever checking in on Arbtalk.
