machine mart petrol log splitter?

I was looking at these the other day, for the price they look ok. May be issues with build quality but at the end of the day it's an engine (chonda type but not as bad as people think) a hydraulic pump, some hoses, valve block and a ram so not much to go wrong and if so easily replaced from a hydraulic parts suppliers. Things can be 're-tightened or re-welded if needed so I think it's worth a punt. It may well need some repairs etc but for the price you can take that on the chin! Mount it on a cheap small trailer axle and you have a cheap towable splitter. May not be the quality of the more expensive brands but if money is an issue then could well be worth a punt!

This was a " cheap Chinker " and I mounted road tow suspension with proper wheel bearings and its been going strong for 4 years now no problems .

The attraction for me is access to jobs ,getting more customers asking for the wood off jobs if I split them at extra cost on site .

I have a compact tractor but I don't want it sat there ticking over for hours on end and again access and room on trailer taken up .

Hi Stubby, I tried to but a splitter like that a couple of years ago, and was told they had stopped selling them, something to do with ce marking or some thing. Looked a good idea splitting both ways - time saver.

Got plans drawn up in my head to make my own now, just need to sieve them out from the rest of junk floating around in my head and get them into metal!

Mine would not pass CE now as I converted it to one handed operation :001_smile:
