Hi Jfc,

Welcome to the forum

Fitness and strength are good to have but most of it is technique, If you already own climbing kit or have access to it get out and practice as much as possible. Do a search on here too as this question has been asked a few times so there will be good advice there also. Try other sources like books/ youtube or if you know any competent climbers try and get out with them. Maybe even spend 30 min one night browsing the Fr Jones site and have a look at different types of gear and what they do.

Hope this helps dude :001_smile:

Thanks Jack.:thumbup1:

I don't know of anyone nearby to show me the ropes! I have the Jeff Jepson tree climbing book. I have rock climbing gear (and 20yrs experience using it) so could set that up on a tree, but I'm not sure what set up is likely to be taught in my assessment.

To help you on your course, learn basic knots, show in you tree climbers companion book, or on here at the top, prussic, bowline, blakes hitch, fishersmans, etc so you are confident to tying them, so not to waste time on your course doing knots.
