Broke the gasket on top of the carb

So I have had to make a new oneImageUploadedByArbtalk1420400242.551365.jpg.8534ddc8a3cf1fe626bcdfc8a81ba938.jpg

Taped the old one back together and used it as a template

Used a drill to cut the holes, it's not perfect and when I get time I'll make a better one

Again gaskets are still available if needed but by the looks of what you've made thatll do fine.

Re the decomp you just remove it and get a plug that fits in its place if you want to. I prefer having a decomp as im lazy. New ones are again available for about £22 from stihl.

For reference purposes the 051 and 075/076 share the same bottom end, its only the piston/cylinder that is different along with the way its bolted down, Carbs the same etc to.

The only age specific differences to the bottom ends where most of the 075/076 saws had a manual chain oil plunger alongside the automatic adjustable oiler. Also obviously ears where added on later saws in respect of them having chain brakes to.

Yes but an ally block can be bolted to the front to form a bracket and retro-fit a chainbrake to the saw. The 075/076 has m6 bolts, so to mount those, you need to re-tap the mounts. I've done the above on mine.

Right, got hold of the rest of the bits to make a complete saw now. I swapped an 08s that I bought on eBay for £45 with my mate for the air filter base and cover and the clutch side casing. But kept the 20 inch bar and chain that came with it.

1st problem I came across was when trying to sharpen the very badly sharpened chain I kept blunting brand new files. Is this because the chain has got so hot during previous use it has hardened the cutters?

2nd problem, cut a few logs with it and it started smoking. There is a gap letting sawdust onto the muffler is this because the side case is the wrong one?ImageUploadedByArbtalk1423422619.687481.jpg.116e23adaf75a71a2bc5dc8bcb976e29.jpg
