Mog pto chipper.. Front vs rear mount

I've run Schliesing Chippers on mogs for 20 years and always on the back. We chip straight into the back and side tip out, works perfectly. I've had a few implements on the front and road junctions and braking become a nightmare. You need to ballast the back.

Have you ever weighed your rear axel when your chip box is full??

I drive mogs, both 400's and 1650's, with front mount attachments regularly i.e. flail arms and chippers. Only thing to remember is to edge out slowly at junctions, or you scare the life out of an old lady coming the other way

We ballasted the back of ours (U1650) when we were doing sign clearance on the M25 and trust me you need it, braking hard means the chipper becomes a land anchor :blushing:

Sorry to hear about your friend timon. How mu h dose your greenmech weigh ? You should be ok with the lwb. But you can always have your tool locker box right on the arse will help with a tad with balance without adding unwanted weight

Thanks Elliot,

The green mech weighs 850kg. Should be ok I think, with the HD springs. We might put some extra lights on the chipper.

Thanks mate.

Yeah 850kg wont be to bad. Side lights ,indicators and a beacon on chipper will do. your need high level driving lights if not allredy fitted. And think about what side the shute will be and position for drivers sight. Have you decided how you mounting the reverse box ?

Not sure about the reverse box, I haven't seen it yet but I'm told it's only 5 bolts. Our mechanic will build a purpose built mounting plate to incorporate everything.

How long is the chipper?

Does it throw the chips far enough to get over the cab, including wet conifer??

I'd be very cautious of just putting a rear chipper on the front.

I've waisted a great deal of time and money messing with the wrong chipper.

Ours is the green mech 220..... Very powerful discharge ... It is a bit on the long side but it's an excellent chipper wouldn't want to gamble getting another one just because it's a bit shorter.
