the headsets were spot on and tbh made the job do able

can you imagine turning up to a big tree that needed 80% of the top lowering out and never having met the other lads on site

If anyone had been watching we would of looked like we had done it all loads of times before

well no problems we could just talk it all through and as soon as i had tied up a lump just tell him and he got ready then he said ready and off they came

made us faster safer and was quite sociable and we could discuss the finer points and both learnt stuff and even other lads on ground could ask questions

the only faults with them was a little bit of noise when he was sawing and the helmet brackets were a bit wide so the earmuff did not clamp tight enough to the ears to keep enough noise out

and YES i am planning on buying a set

just depends on the fittings tbh and need a definate price

Theey look very bulky, are they any heavier than regular ear defenders? I'm sure with all the micro-technology out there they could be a lot smaller and equally as good. If you listen to the crew radios in F1 you can cearly hear the drivers talking to the crew with negligable engine noise, how would you say these compare to that?

similar to normal muffs tbh

nigel did think they were warmer but it was a hot day

the noise transfer was negligable and you could wisper and they would still hear

i was impressed

The main problem with the headsets, in as far as we have trialled them, is that the fitting supplied to adapt them to a vertex or balance helmet type of fitting does not give a very good seal against the ear.

They come with another type of fitting for other helmets as well, perhaps these are better.

When we tried them the first time the other week just as normal headband type defenders they were much better.

Its a shame something for several hundred quid is spoilt by some bits of plastic costing pence.

But, it should be easy for the manufacturers to rectify, and we are after all giving them a real world trial.

If they don't get feedback then they can't improve the product.

I mentioned this to the guy on the Arborcom stand at the AA show and he said it was something they were aware of and were trying to improve.

The only other niggle I had with them was that I could hear bob's saw through his microphone.

If the saw had been louder, the electronics would have blotted it out, but it wasn't and it was a little annoying, but better when I turned down the volume on my set.

Having done that Bob's speech was still clear, but I would have preferrred a little louder speech and a little less saw.

Louder sounds such as the chipper and the saw I was using were blotted out almost completely.

A big thank you once again to Viking Communications of York for the free loan and trial.

I will be reluctant to have to return them!

If they iron out the niggle with the correct head fitting I will buy a set.

Viking Communications are on 01904 607466 ask for Daniel King.

Nice one, so the best thing is for Bob to get his saw modded then all will be great for next time:sneaky2::001_tt1:
