So having gone out to the Defender this morning and the bugger refuses to start again (nothing but clicking noises). I've ordered myself an Optima Red top Battery (I've checked the alternator it's fine).

Anyone with any experience?

I'm told they're the dogs shiny bits.

hi it sounds like starter motor fault

Nope, quick charge, and all's good. In all fairness, the battery has been a bit crap for a while. I haven't even been able to charge my phone, unless the motors running, with out draining the battery for months.

I,m betting you have had warnings that your battery is failing and you have ignored it.

First signs of battery failure is normally on the first cold mornings of winter.

A battery really has a useful life of 5 years, after that it a bonus

Think I've already admitted that, but thanks for the input.

What I'm really after, is anyone with any experience with the Optima batteries, so just ignore the back story (my mistake for including it).

Oh yea , sorry . Not had any experience of Red Top battery's but sounds like you need one ! I could however recomend " Optimate " intelligent battery charger . been known to bring them back from the grave !

I was gonna get the red top but as I use a winch in my Landy I was advised to get the yellow top as more heavy duty than the red top.
