First go at a video - Large Abies dismantle

First go at putting a video together so don't expect slick editing skills! We dismantled this abies at a pinetum, below the tree was a series of small rare species that they are keen to preserve. Some of the large low laterals were rigged off and the rest was either cut and chucked or free fallen. It's a bit 'samey' for the first 2 - 3 mins until I start to rig out the tops.

Yeah know what you mean. Was a tall tree we measured it at 115ft. Anchor point was 90ft and the split where I had the stems strapped together started at 72ft

Normally do mate for heavier stuff but they wanted the chops in 3ft lengths so used smaller kit. For larger drops I tend to use the larger ISC blocks with a dead eye

Cheers. Yeah they were light enough to throw. The biggest part of the job was to make sure that nothing happened to the small rare trees at the base. I chucked a couple and one took a bounce towards the small cedar so I decided to lower the rest off to the split then we felled the stick rather than risk any chogs hitting those little trees

Understood, with that long a drop they can do some funny things.

Yeah they can, the buttresses on the tree splayed out and as the chogs hit them they flicked off, couldn't throw them out wider as they would have been to near the small under planting. Would have been a shame to get that far and then smash one with a chog. I didn't really want to be rigging on it due to the inclusion at 70ft but I ratchet strapped the two leaders together to provide some support and they felt relatively ok.
