Trailer security

I hide mine in a swamp. Worked so far.

I think this one is probably a bit situation-specific. If you create a swamp in front of the average suburban house the neighbours tend to complain...

Not sure how much it helps, but I tend to leave large lumps of wood in mine but take all the ropes/ratchet straps away and leave it unstable. The sides don't drop, so the only way to unload is with a hoist and I reckon someone would think twice about driving down the road with the risk of it suddenly rolling across and slewing the trailer, or shedding the load.

I have an indespension 12x6 plant trailer with a triplelock hitch fitted, seem to have misplaced the key, the only id number for barrel is on the key!! Took me less than 30 seconds to 'steal' my own trailer. Rang manufacturer for a new lock and was told it was cast in and not removable, even though i had it in my hand. Only solution, appaently is a new hitch at £140, but its alright they have it in stock.

Currently looking for other suggestions.

I'm afraid they don't think like me & you to them it's an instant road block for Pursuing police cars.

Many years ago I had a (very heavy) 3.5 ton plant trailer with a 2" ring coupling. One day some thieving whatnots in a Transit cut the locks off the trailer, hitched it to their van, and made off with it.

As it happens they didn't get far with it. They'd dropped the ring over the 50mm ball on the van, and about a mile down the road the trailer unhitched itself and turned left into the front garden of a very expensive house (Taplow, nr Maidenhead), and plowed a 30 foot furrow across the front lawn.

I had a call from plod within minutes since my number plate was on the trailer, and it was only because the van had been seen and wasn't the Landrover that the number belonged to that they eventually accepted it wasn't me!

I sometimes wonder what would have happened if the dangerous morons had got further and it had come off alongside a bus stop outside a school, or similar.
