Err, dunno, there just the new version, there is a nice orange guard over the blade instead of the black one. Lol. I just wanted a 30" set so I will sell my 24" on eBay in full working order and they have just been serviced by my local stihl dealer.

I've got a HS-81R brilliant hedge trimmer bit pricey! I also have the husky equivalent which is not a patch on it and has terrible build quality, the bolts on the bar rattle loose all the time etc.

Not for professional use, I bought a set of the long reach cutters after everyone blew on about how great they are and really they are not well made in the way stihl are. They are typical Chinese build quality. I wouldn't buy another set.

RUBBISH! Reckon you bought a fake one. I used to mingle in the hedge cutting champs held in Painswick; about 85% echos, some S, H and Kawasaki.

I bought it from and Echo dealer! It's not well made. It cuts nice no doubt but the build quality is pants. Very flimsy, poorly designed parts like the trigger/grip.

Husqvarna only do one 40" machine - 226HS99S

Tooth spacing is 28mm

HS86T is 30mm,HS86R was 38mm.

If there was a big demand for a long, single sided ,coarse cut machine Stihl would continue to make it.

I currently have a stihl hs86 with a 40inch bar, for rough cutting. I.e. not the fine blade.

stihl in their infinate wisdom no longer do a bar that length unless its for fine trimming.

I need to replace it, and was wondering if the husqvarna equivalent was worth a punt?

I can't find any evidence that the HS86R(coarse cut) was ever available in 40"

yes, but thats fine cut. I have that model. I need the rough cut one, for laurel, hawthorn etc. Why stihl dropped it is beyond me. Will look at echo

You must have the HS86T(fine cut) - which at 30mm is "stihl"quite coarse.
