Depends if the load needs to be on a controlled decent or just a fast speed line.

Bowline to the top or suitable anchor, groundie holds the line. Sling a branch, attach to the speed line and cut. Can be quicker than lowering sometimes, we use this quite often.

Cheers guys, what do you anchor to on the ground? I'm thinking of putting it on the back of my van as there are no suitable trees and controlling it. Looking forward to having a play around (y)

No don't tension your lines with vehicles, anchor yes but no tension. you have know idea of how much pressure your applying on the line. Leave the line slack whist you rig the piece off then apply tension to the speed line buy mechanical advantage, ie fiddle block system, hand winch, or even a good old fashioned dolly hitch will do.

 

Anchor wise just but it on what ever you have to hand, trees substantial shrubs ect

And don't confuse a zip line with a speed line setup

We've used a port a wrap before attached to the tow bar tighten up ready to zip line then when the branch comes down slacken it off on the port wrap so it hits the ground first and not your vehicle.

Cool, so you just move the anchor as you work up the tree? The sycamore I'm looking at has a co-dominant leader I was thinking of anchoring into that with a main line whilst removing the adjacent leader.. hmm
