5 years on from the start of this thread and we've been back in the same vincinity, this time monolithing another dead willow which can be seen alive in the background of the first image from back in '09.

although its been dead for a couple of years its still solid enough at the base to be able to leave as standing dead wood for a few years yet.

 

we were careful to leave the self set lime sapling intact to let it take the place of the willow.
