need help finding work

im fairly new to the industry and so struggling somewhat. ive about 18 months experience, ground and aerial work (incl 7 months in NZ) plus a year at college. tree work is all i wanna do and im gutted i didnt start earlier, when there was more work. coming from rock climbing stock, i am fit and strong and i love getting stuck in and working hard (heard it all before i know).

If anyone can offer me advice on finding work, knows of anyone who might give me a chance, or, dare i say, could offer me a job please send me a pm.

ill perform any duties (within reason) for 50 pound a day and would be willing to work a weeks free trial. I live in Bolton and will travel anywhere in the north west for work.

Sounds like some of the cards you see in 'phone boxes .

 

Have you tried all the usual suspects: Hort Week, Arb Jobs, Landforce, Jobcentre Plus and some of the agencies like CTC, Hays Montrose etc?

i'm in the same boat as you mate, if you cant find work immediately dont worry, just keep your chin up and keep on trying, persistency will prevail.

Unfortunately, this post isn't going to help you much! I was just curious as to how you found work in NZ? Also, I'm off to The National School of Forestry in Penrith in September, and I'll be advertising the whole while so if I get anything that requires two pairs of hands, I'll be sure to give you a shout.

i was led to believe nz was desperate for tree surgeons!? am i wrong in saying so!? because i would of liked to go there for a few years for work!?

Try Fountains or Tilhill or any of the big utility companies,not the most rewarding of arb work but it pays the bills and gets you experience

why dont you guys get together, buy a van and some sleeping bags and travel the country working for arbtalk members that can give you a days work here or there, get some sponsorship on the side of it and head off, plug in a laptop and roadtrip your way around the country, working for fuel and wages. you wont need any insurance because you will be offering such a low rate of pay you will be working under theirs. involve the colleges that promised you all this work and money once you finished.

that does sound appealing, because road trips are always fun, i'd be up for it as long as i could take my bike, anyone else?

Have you been to your local saw shops

ask who has a lot of work on at the moment then call them

 

you may even see people there who can give you work
