If I had’nt read Hannah’s thread Ustulina deusta and Monkeyd thread Ustulina - Nasty little Blighter I probably wouldn’t have spotted it.

I was aware of the bleeding canker’s on the trunk and on the right hand buttress roots, I have since found out that these may be associated with Kretzschmaria deusta.

looks quite nasty , how big is the host tree ?? i felled a sycamore a few weeks back that was infected with Kretzschmaria deusta , from the a visual inspection you would not assume there was any thing majorly wrong structually but after using a decay detection drill it was evedent that the sound wall thicknes was only 10-11%. the tree was situated in a park and lent out over the grassed area , hence we felled it the same day , then next day we came to stump grind it and i was amaed to see how major the decay was , we took 25 mins to grind the stump that was 26-28 inches accros .

Height wise im not sure, circumference of the trunk was 12' 10".

Would like to have some decay detection done, not sure what type, or which would give the best results?

This is a major landscape tree, so felling would be the last resort; it would also open up a wind tunnel towards another declining Beech.

There is no direct public access, just permitted and permissive access.
