Hello people. Just got the mot quote for my 1996 transit tipper.......... And it's time to say goodbye to her. Rusting away! I've no clue about vehicles, I have to be honest, and was wondering what type or make or models to go for or avoid?!? I'm shopping in the £3.500—£4.000 mark. Not great I know but any help would be gratefully received

I am on my 4th tranny (sounds just wrong!) and no.1 didnt rust, 1986 single wheel petrol, no rust at all.

no. 2 88 twin wheeler, total rust bucket

no. 3 2000 single wheeler, rust bucket

no. 4 06 twin wheeler needed lots of welding under door step, behind cab and rotten wings!

next time round its Iveco.

Was told once that the vin plate tells you where manufactured and to only buy the German made one, but dont know if this is true!!

Get another transit and keep the old one for spares:thumbup:

Indeed!

Mine a 94 CrewCab, 71k ex humber council tree truck. Was very well looked after, no rust on her at all, seen 08 trucks in worse condition, cheap to maintain keep going, its faultess and cost a tad over 1.5k.

In the last 18months its cost me a tyre and bulb (other than a service).

Wont be letting go off it.

Having said that I would like something newer looking!
