Hi Will, I am using Ronseal Natural decking oil at the moment. It does turn the wood a bit yellow but pretty much anything will I believe.

 

Here is my offering of barn owl which is fighting me all the way grrrrrrrrrrr Still some way to go on it yet.

I wasn't so keen on the barn owl sat outside my bedroom window having a hooting contest with his oppo across the field through the small hours of last night!!

 

 

Barn owls don't hoot the screech and hiss ;)

My poor description but I bow to your greater knowledge! I also got a rocket from Mrs J, as she put it "if that's all you've got to moan about.... It could be a lot worse, at least it's not crack heads and aled up idiots shouting, singing and smashing cars!"

 

All very true! I'm thinking it must be this years brood, fledged and out of the nest, starting to establish individual hunting grounds? Definitely 3 individual hooters tonight and a screecher. Would that be the 1 adult and 3 babies?

Ah, I'm no expert, I just had the same problem as you when I was growing up. We had barn owls nesting in our barn and they used to make an awful racket!

Also sometimes from dusk into darkness you can hear tawnies hooting and if you can make a hooting noise they hoot back
