Thanks Shaun, It's a piece of monterey pine, I'm not sure about finishing, I always struggle trying to decide what to put on them, It's pretty green, any suggestions ?

 

How about gently scorch the upper surface just brown not black then clear decking oil?

I wouldn't worry about being green, the quicker you get oil on it the less likely it is to split etc.

 

BTW you have inspired me to carve one myself I hope I can get half way near as good yours is.

Thanks Shaun, I'll give it a try, what kind of decking oil do you use, I want to get clear oil but must of the stuff i've come across is "natural". I had a look at your website and you've got a great finish on all your carvings
