NGK spark plugs

Excuse my ignorance and possible stupidity but what's the difference, if any, between the bpmr6a and the bpmr7a plugs? Lol cheers

The 6 and 7 are the heat rating, the lower the number, the hotter the plug can run. The R is a resistor and the P is a projected tip Champion plugs heat range is the opposite way round

The NGK plug code gives all necessary information on the plug type and construction and can be found online if you want to plough through it.

 

Your two plugs are the same with the only difference being the number which denotes the heat range.

In practice this means that a 6 will heat up quickly and run hot to prevent the build up of deposits in, for instance, a low power low compression engine whereas the 7 would run cooler and protect itself from overheating in a high performance engine.

 

I'm not sure how much of a difference there is between the plugs you mention and probably either would do. The plug reach should be the same but just do a physical check before you fit.

So why did Husqvarna advise me to run a six instead of a seven in my 560 ? No problems since installing a six by the way .

Possibly a little less heat to help prevent pre detonation but a smidgen more chance of carbon build up tho.

The recommended spark plugs by Husqvarna in the majority of their saws over the years have been Champion RCJ7Y and NGK BPMR7A.

 

Visual inspection of the spark plug can reveal if a warmer or cooler spark plug could suit better the current run conditions.

Thanks everyone. Just wondering because my 362c came back from the dealers with a 6 plug in. Didn't make any difference, still idles like a bag of poop
