No they are Italian, good at backwards.

 

French boots aren't as good at backwards but do come with a white flag as standard.

Seconded for the Ethical Wares boots. I've had two pairs now. It's slightly annoying that they don't have a rubber toe cap, as the front of the boot was the only thing to wear out on my first pair, but they're the only non-leather boots I've found.
