In my experience (4mm) it lasts better than round line for bump feds. I haven't tried the narrower stuff though. It may occasionally need pulling out with pliers, but apart from that it does work and last well.

 

Only problem I've found with using strong line in a conventional head is that if you get tangled in an immovable obstruction then it will rip your head apart. The jet fit etc heads are more robust.

I've never used flexiblade line in a conventional head and I do prefer the jet fit heads as I find that they are easier live with being easier to fix and more robust due to fewer parts and simplicity. I can't speak for the portek heads though as I have never tried them.
