Health & Safety Officer

It'll be the IOSH route I should think, not sure if that'll make you an officer but it should furnish you with enough knowledge to fulfill your companies requirements.

Just my thoughts by the way, I'm no specialist; I looked at a similar course a while back but didn't take it any further due to ongoing study commitments.

Hi everyone

I am looking at becoming a heath and safety officer for our company as we don't have one yet and just don't have the funds behind us to pay for an external one

Does anyone have any ideas on how I go about doing this?

Or know of any cheap external H&S officers that we can use?

Thanks

Have a look here A competent person and, joking apart (not really ) looking into the ARB Approved Contractor Scheme will give you a better understanding of what's involved, AND from an industry specific perspective.

IF you're simply looking for someone with lots of letters after their name who you can cite as your 'external' H&S advisor have a look on the HSE website at Occupational Safety & Health Consultants Register | OSHCR .

Cheers, n good luck..

Paul

Take a look at HS Direct | Health & Safety Services, Risk Assessments and Method Statements - great package - metion us to Paul Brownell

Not a problem engaging external advisors / consultants BUT unless they are industry specific, and unless you're simply seeking their post-nominals for tendering purposes :confused1: , make sure you are actively involved in the process and that the documentation presented is relevant to your business size, type and works undertaken.

Too often I see businesses making commitments in writing, i.e. in policies and procedures, that they don't follow through in practice and which are often not relevant / applicable. Potentially this could come back and bite you on the...posterior.

Seeking the views of others is important :thumbup1:

Cheers..

Paul
