It depends largely on what rope you are using. I don't think Cougar Blue is popular with any of the SRT hitch devices.

If you've bought a HAAS, you're hand ascenders are now redundant. One of the great features of the HAAS is that you can just go hand over hand on the rope above your hitch. This dispenses with the need for hand ascenders and keeps you in a more upright position.

Also, did you know there is an SRT forum just above this one on the same page.

I use cougar blue, and so do a few others I know. As for ascenders, I wouldn't use them only on Kernmantle apart from a pantin or used below the hitch al la haas style.

For me I always use a Kernmantle access line with ascenders for crown access with a hand over hand rope walker system it's simple fast and efficient. I then leave the Kernmantle in place for rescue. Then work off something like cougar blue or over master with a hitch usually DdRT, but starting to use srtwp more and will probably use a haas system more.

Nod from Treeworker is talking to Donaghys about getting more Cougar Blue in.

I've climbed on it and thought the low stretch was great for SRT access.

I'll switch to Ddrt when the tree suits, so this seemed to tick all the boxes for me.

Kernmaster seems pretty highly thought of for a pure SRT rope.
