Need some help please, what is this on this very healthy Sweet Chestnut Tree I manage? It's only on the south facing side of the tree and goes all the way to the top of canopy on one limb. A sign of snails/slugs? Or am I missing something? I can't see much in the other two photos... Or is it more like a web?

If its the silvery/rainbow streaks on the bark, then tis nowt but the dried up slime of slugs and snails that come out of a night and crawl up and down the tree grazing the algae that grows on the barks surface!

 

Or am I missing something else too? :biggrin:

No your not missing anything, exactly what I thought. Thank you all for your help and confirming it slugs.
