What's this on Sweet Chestnut

Need some help please, what is this on this very healthy Sweet Chestnut Tree I manage? It's only on the south facing side of the tree and goes all the way to the top of canopy on one limb. Can only think it's some sort of bug/insect or not.

snail/slug slime, they hide in cavities, a VTA hack

was this tree topped or pollarded, seems to be from that branch structure

Not any major work, just crown reductions.

If its the silvery/rainbow streaks on the bark, then tis nowt but the dried up slime of slugs and snails that come out of a night and crawl up and down the tree grazing the algae that grows on the barks surface!

 

Or am I missing something else too?

No your not missing anything, exactly what I thought. Thank you all for your help and confirming it slugs.
