pity the second weight is missing….have a chunk of steel on mine…. couldn't live without it….. best old tool there is…..:thumbup:

 

there great tools, tis a shame about the other weight, thinking of a old biccy tin full of lead for the second one.

I used to work on these at a boiler factory years ago, it was looked on as an instrument of torture when you were punching holes in boiler frames on piece work. If you were really going for it sometimes the counterweight flew off and it was like a bowling ball running down the shop floor.

sure is a murex, (touch wood) been a good welder so far, its only a single phase im on the lookout for something bigger at the mo, something 3phase with a bit more umph, for some reason the jobs I seem to getting are getting bigger needing a tad more umph.

What advantages over a pump up hydraulic press apart from speed?

 

None, the fly press is primarily a production line machine where the hydraulic press tends be much slower and thus not so good when you have thousands of units to make.

 

Modern press work can beat the old school but needs a significant investment in machine and tooling so works best on the highest volume work.

 

A fly press is a grim place to spend a shift or two.:thumbdown:
