Leafless Laburnum

Went to price a job today and noticed this in the corner.

Totally leafless Laburnum, only flowers. Looked quite vigorous as well.

Only thing I could think is that it is in it's death throws and using all stored energy to fruit / reproduce ??

With no leaves to pay back used energy it surely can't survive this coming season ??

Neighbouring trees aren't too bad, just showing slight shot hole (cherry)

No soil water logging

one apple nearby with wooly aphid infestation ( advised to spray aphids with soap flake / water mix )

:confused1:

Is that the arborist's version of coming out?! We look forward to photos of finished articles.

Did a weekend's course myself a few years ago and can't say I was bitten but if retirement, when it comes, provides any spare time (unlikely methinks) turning is a definite possibility. Amazing what a little knowledge can produce; I'm still proud of my beechwood bowl! Good luck with it.

It's just going to be a little sideline for the quiet winter period over xmas.

I was thinking of turning some rustic nestboxes of different sizes and some bowls. The only turning I've done is on my engineers lathe when I sold tools making new boxwood handles for chisels :001_smile:

Might go on a small course if there is such a thing

Any leaf litter on the floor Dean? What about shoot extension? Does seem odd.

Absolutely nothing Tony, hasn't bothered budding at all :confused1:

I have tried to crop the image to blow it up but apologise for the picture quality, it's out of focus.

If I pass again this weekend I'll try and get a macro shot and have a closer inspection.
