both ends of your rope

how many of the younger arborists and older guys use both ends ?

 

i like to climb with splittail/lanyard and 1 end of my main line but i had a debate with a fellow student as to the reasons i dont like using both ends, basicly it ended up being that i am stupid and know hee haw lol

 

any feedback and critisism welcome

As a groundie, I HATE watching some less experienced climbers using both ends of the rope, as I constantly worry they are going to knock a big bit of limb out and tangle it in the loop of the line. My fears to date are unfounded, but I do worry nontheless.

Ill climb with just 1 end and a strop most times. Sometimes ill need to use the other end of my rope. but rarely use it.

Other end for emergencies only. I climbed on both ends when I first started out but in those days we didn't have lanyards, if you need a lanyard then the other end of your rope did for that too.

 

Once we started making up our own lanyards form old rope we would never go back to both ends again, unless like I said above for emergencies.

 

If you need two anchor points in order to carry out a particular job then use two ropes for exactly the reason the Andy mentioned.

I use a lanyard and one end of my rope but today used both ends of my rope for the first time in 4yrs getting out to the tip of a small ash limb!
