Average day rate for tree surgery

I think the topping up is left for us to sort out.... but we're not exactly minted right now, just happily working our asses off.

You are doing a disservice to the industry charging so low. There are too many cheap tree surgeons out there busting their balls for bugger all. I know its sometimes a matter of geographical area that you service but things like consumables (Chains, files, kit e.t.c) don't change cost wherever you are. Neither does the cost of insurance or the amount of tax you pay. So a bit of education is needed here....You have to work out how much you as a climber need for the day (£180-200) plus the same for your other climber climber bearing in mind if you are a little firm you would be paying around (£100-150) so would charge client (£180-200) this would also cover the fact that if secondary climber was off and you needed to bring in a free lancer. Then you have to think about what your waste, insurance, kit, consumables, vehicle and chipper cost for a day. There are 250 working days a year and whatever you spend on these outgoings are over a year need to be divided into this. Example = I spend on average 20k a year for the pleasure of having me and another climber working fully insured with tipper and chipper, all the kit, consumables, vehicle fuel and expenses. 20,000 over 250 = £80 per day to add to your £400 =£480 then you should be putting on 20% £96 = £576 ish. 20% profit is a standard in most industries that you have to put into your price. If you don't you are a mug and will not be able to run a business. The cost above can vary a bit depending on - is the job going on for more than one day? is it for a regular customer? etc etc. Think about it guys your a business your not doing it just for love cos this means loss in the long run.
